The Complex Landscape of TMS Devices: A Brief Overview
We are thrilled to announce the publication of a research paper in PLOSONE journal by our team at the Center for Clinical Neuroscience-Hospital Los Madroños which provides much needed insight into the complex ecosystem of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) field at both the commercial and experimental levels.
The paper provides a comprehensive overview of commercial and non-commercial TMS devices, highlighting the rapid development and diversity in this field. It introduces a valuable open access database, (http://www.tmsbase.info)offering in-depth information on the technological and clinical aspects of these devices. The team conducted a bibliometric analysis, creating a repository that will aid in device comparison and decision-making for both researchers and clinicians.
Our researchers, Ane Miren Gutiérrez-Muto et al., have analyzed the technical specifications of TMS devices, considering both power electronics and stimulation protocols. The study emphasizes the importance of standardization and benchmarking in TMS technology, aiming for improved end-user choice and homogenization in clinical studies. This research has been developed under the framework of her PhD thesis, which pretends to merge the technical and clinical point of view of the TMS field.
